General Honors Recital Information

Eligibility
- The Catherine Rollin Honors Recital is open to any pre-college students who are residents of the State of Arizona.
- Students may enter both the solo and piano duet divisions. If students choose to participate in both divisions, their registration and payment must be completed separately for each entry.
- All students will need to submit video recordings of two pieces for screening (per entry). Only applicants who pass the screening will be invited to participate in the Honors Recital. Submitted video recordings for the screening round must be no more than 3 months old and made by September 5th, 2026.
- The results of the screening will be emailed to teachers on September 13th, 2026.
Teacher Responsibilities
- Teachers will be asked to volunteer during the Catherine Rollin Honors Recital on September 26th. An Honors Recital chair will contact teachers regarding their volunteer times and duties. If the teacher is unable to fulfill this responsibility, they should find a replacement.
- Teachers should review all current Guidelines and discuss them with participating students and their parents.
- Questions and comments regarding any phase of this event must be directed only between teacher and chairperson. Parents and students are not permitted to discuss any aspect of this event with event staff.
- We recommend that teachers be present in case any issues arise.
Competition Procedure
ONLY TEACHERS MAY REGISTER STUDENTS. If you are a parent, please do not
attempt to register your own child!
Applications Open: Monday, August 10, 2026
Application Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026
Screening Video Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026
Screening Results Emailed to Teachers: Sunday, September 13, 2026
Honors Recital Time, Date & Location: Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. at the ASU Recital Hall (Music Building, 50 E Gammage Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281).
Applications may be submitted online on the ASMTA/Tenuto Web website beginning AUGUST 10th, 2026 and no later than 11:59 p.m. on SEPTEMBER 5, 2026. (https://asmta-recital.tenutoweb.com/). The application should include the complete and accurate names of the two works by Catherine Rollin to be performed and the name of the Catherine Rollin collection book (if applicable).
- In the application, list the exact times for each piece to be performed. Applicants should remain within the maximum total time specified for their division.
- All application fees must be paid online at the ASMTA/TenutoWeb website by 11:59 PM on SEPTEMBER 5, 2026.
- Entry fees are non-refundable.
- All students must submit screening videos. Only applicants who pass the screening will be invited to participate in the Honors Recital.
Video recordings must be:
- Posted to YouTube by 11:59 PM on September 5, 2026 and
- The link(s) to your video(s) must also be submitted on the ASMTA/TenutoWeb website by 11:59 PM on September 5, 2026.
- The videos must remain posted and available through September 26th, 2026.
- Audio and video footage must be completely unedited. Both pieces may be recorded and uploaded separately.
- Please ensure the student’s head, arms, and hands are always visible on the video.
- Only the titles of the pieces should be labeled under the video but no competitor names.
- The panel of two (2) judges will select well-prepared students to play at the Catherine Rollin Honors Recital. The judges’ decision is final.
- Each selected student and duet will perform only one piece at the Honors Recital, chosen by the judges.
- Several students will be chosen to participate in the Masterclass with Catherine Rollin on the same date. Teachers of the students selected to play in the Masterclass will be notified by September 13th. Those students will perform only in the masterclass.
- Students selected to perform in the Catherine Rollin Honors Recital will receive certificates.
- Questions and any type of communication at any phase of this event must be conducted between the teacher and the chairperson (Natalya Thran) only. All questions must be directed to Natalya Thran at nthran@yahoo.com.

Composition Division
- ONE (1) Solo Piano Composition must be at least 1 minute in performance time but less than 5 minutes. Scores should be digital (handwritten scores are discouraged). Dorico, Noteflight, Sibelius, etc., are suggested programs.
- Compositions must be submitted to Hannah Creviston at Hannah.creviston@asu.edu.
- DEADLINE: Compositions must be submitted by September 5th, 2026.
- Comments will be provided to students no later than September 19th, 2026.
- A professional composer will select up to three (3) compositions to be performed at the Catherine Rollin Honors Recital.

Repertoire Requirements for Piano Solo/Duet (subject to change for 2026)
General
- All students must perform two contrasting pieces by Catherine Rollin only.
- All pieces must be performed from memory except in the case of the Piano Duet Division.
- Both pieces must be performed within the time limit listed above.
- No arrangements may be used.
- All entrants must abide by the Federal Copyright Law. Photocopies are not allowed.
- Performers who choose to disregard the repertoire requirement guidelines will be disqualified.
Alterations and Exclusions
- Repertoire changes: Once the application is submitted, no changes to the repertoire will be permitted.
- Masterclass: Students who participate in the masterclass during Pedagogy Day will not play in the Honors Recital on the same day.
- Cuts: Any performances containing cuts will be disqualified.
- Repeats: If the endings of repeats are the same, repeats are optional. If the endings of repeats are different, repeats must be taken.
Special Repertoire
- Original Compositions: Only original compositions by Catherine Rollin are allowed.
General Rules
- All performances are to be from memory (except for the Piano Duet Division) and must stay within the time guidelines.
- The judges’ decision is final and is not subject to query, review or appeal.
- Any competitor may be disqualified for failure to comply with the rules and procedures pertaining to this event.
Dress Code
Appropriate concert attire is required for the Honors Recital. This may include dresses (knee-length or longer), button-down shirts, slacks or dress trousers, and dress shoes; optional attire includes sport coats, ties, or suits.
No jeans, sweatpants or sweatshirts, sneakers, gym attire, tennis shoes, flip flops, boat shoes, etc. All apparel must be modest and non-revealing. Hair should not hide a performer’s face. Please do not wear clothing that will detract from the performance or the dignity of the event.
Etiquette
Inappropriate behavior, at the discretion of the chairperson and ASMTA President, will result in the immediate disqualification of the student and forfeiture of any awards or certificates.
