Certification Committee

The MTNA Professional Certification Program exists to improve the level of professionalism within the field of applied music teaching. The designation of Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) is given to successful candidates who meet the professional competencies and standards required for MTNA certification.

The Arizona Study Program (ASP) is in its 42nd year of providing an appropriate consecutive and comprehensive plan of music study designed to motivate and encourage the student to strive for growth and excellence.  To learn more about ASP, see General Information.

If you wish to enroll students in ASP, please print the Enrollment Form and mail it to your local association ASP Chair.

Print the Materials Order Form to obtain workbooks and other ASP materials for your students.

MTNA Arizona State Competitions

The MTNA Arizona State Competitions Committee encourages every detail of musical excellence by solo and chamber music performance competitions (junior high through collegiate) and composition competitions (elementary through collegiate).

State level winners perform at the Winners' Recital and are required to compete in the MTNA Southwest Division Competitions.Southwest Division winners also compete just before the MTNA National Conference and National Winners perform at a special recital during the MTNA National Conference.

James R. Anthony Honors Recital exists to promote the development of musicianship, technique and performance to the highest level possible.  This is achieved through evaluation and audition leading to a recital featuring the most outstanding students in Arizona.

College Faculty

Develops and facilitates communication with the Collegiate Chapter Advisors, helps facilitate recruitment and chapter involvement, and assists in developing educational, musical, social, and professional experiences in and between the collegiate chapters in Arizona

Techology

Chair:  Cecilia Whitby

Communicates and coordinates information pertaining to computers, digital keyboards, midi sequencers, and any new MTNA technology-related programs and competitions in Arizona, and coordinates technology sessions held at the ASMTA conference

Independent Music Teachers Forum

Chair:  Ann T. Taylor

Exists to give independent music teachers a forum for discussion of any concerns affecting teachers in Arizona , e.g., public school credit or release time, studio policies, ethics, judging, public relations, licensing, zoning and others

MTNA Foundation

Chair:  Janice Holladay

Advances the value of music study and music-making to society, educates the membership about the MTNA Foundation, seeks cash contributions through various funding raising programs and events and supports the professionalism of member teachers by providing grants and awards

Archivist

Chair:  Anna Mae Bruning

Preserves the ASMTA Archives and publications which may be designated by the Board for the historical enlightenment and enjoyment of all Arizona members

Arts Awareness And Advocacy

Chair:  Barbara Harry

Educates and encourages ASMTA members to reach out to communities to increase public awareness of the value of the arts and acts as an advocate to open doors and build bridges to resources, legislation and cooperative ventures as well as recommending advocacy policies to the MTNA Board of Directors

Student Chapters

Chair:  Aryo Wicaksono

Works closely with the College Faculty Chair to encourage student membership in ASMTA and local chapters
